Congratulations to PGHS Winter Percussion and Winter Guard

A huge congratulations to our Winter Percussion Ensemble and our Winter Guard team for competing in the Northern California Band Association Winter Championship at Del Oro High School. Both teams placed at the top of their division amongst a field of very competitive high school programs in Northern California. Our Winter Percussion Ensemble won First Place in the Scholastic Division after only being promoted into this division a week before. This team has been undefeated all season, bringing home first place trophies in the Advanced Division and one in the Scholastic Division, out-scoredover all other teams in the EGUSD. Our Winter Guard team won the Championship trophy in the Novice B Division. This team has also been undefeated all season in their category as well, and it has only been their first competitive season. We look forward to seeing what both of these teams can do next year! We appreciate theirhard work and dedication to their sport! Congratulations to both teams for a job well done!!

Summer Camp Serenade

Pleasant Grove Elementary School will present “Summer Camp Serenade” at 7 p.m. February 16th & 17th. This fun play highlights camp counselors and junior campers as they sing and dance their way through bus trips to camp, writing letters home, surviving scary camp legends, talent show antics and a summer in the dirt.

Second Annual Walk to Remember

On April 10, 2009 five American soldiers were killed by a suicide bomber in Mosul, Iraq. SFC Bryan E. Hall, of Elk Grove, was one of those soldiers. This walk is to honor him, the other four men killed in the incident, and all American Soldiers who are serving our country and those who have served in the past. All proceeds from the walk will be split between the Bryan E. Hall Memorial Scholarship and an education fund established for SFC Hall’s four-year old daughter, Addison.

Take Your Parents to School Day

Parents of students at Pleasant Grove High School are invited to attend Take Your Parents to School Day from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. In addition to classroom visitations, workshops will be offered featuring information about college and career information, School Loop, student activities and athletics, adolescent substance issues, self-esteem and positive study habits.

Select & Competitive Program Pre-Tryout Clinics

EGYSL’s Select & Competitive Program Pre-Tryout Clinics and Tryouts start today. Our Pre-Tryout Clinics are not mandatory, but they are a great way for players to understand the dynamics of tryouts and to get some great soccer training prior to tryouts. Coaches will be on hand to meet with Parents.

7th-12th grades will need proof whooping cough shot

This coming school year (2011-2012), all students entering into 7th-12th grades will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (called “Tdap”) before starting the school year 2011-2012. This includes current students, new students and transfer students in both public and private schools. Please contact your primary care physician to make sure you are updated and then bring a copy of your shot records to the health office.

EGUSD Calendar of Events

Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District during the week of January 24-29:

January 24: James Rutter Middle School will hold their 18th Annual Multicultural Show from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in their multipurpose room. Acts scheduled to perform include traditional Vietnamese, Chinese, Hmong, Pacific Islander and Hispanic dances, as well as more modern performances from the Break Dancing and African-American clubs. The Rutter band and choir will also perform.

January 25: Valley High School will host a “Cash for College” Night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in their library. This event is a free workshop for all EGUSD students and parents for help to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Boundary Update at EGUSD

At their January 18, 2011 meeting, the Elk Grove Unified School District’s Board of Education directed staff to adjust the boundary proposal for Robert J. Fite, Carroll, Elliott Ranch and Joseph Sims elementary schools to begin in the 2012-2013 school year.

The January 18 meeting was the first time that the Board had the opportunity to discuss public input about the boundary proposal. The district held 10 community meetings through December to gather input. The boundary conversations center on the exploration of a number of options to balance enrollment at secondary schools throughout the district.
